Beckett’s End of the Bed Memory Quilt

Beckett’s mom, Danica, commissioned this quilt to preserve his baby and toddler clothing. Beckett (almost a middle schooler when I started sewing) had very particular ideas about the size and shape of his quilt. He wanted a long skinny quilt to lie over the end of his mattress. It’s a really nice compromise between an art piece that lives on the wall and a blanket that rests on the bed. And it’s really hard to photograph!

The flaps are ‘prairie points’ formed by folding a larger square into triangles. They’re scupltural and have a lot of movement and dimension. Even if you iron the points, they’re bound to flip upside down at some point. Then they’ll flip back. They’re funny. They’re adorable. They’re unpredictable and hard to control, so you just have to lean into it. Like raising a toddler.
