In February of 2021, I was a little bit losing my mind. It was mid-winter in the Pacific Northwest and it was dark and rainy. There was a Covid surge and I wasn’t eligible to be vaccinated yet. I lived in a town where I didn’t have any friends and I hadn’t seen my parents in a year. Cabin fever was setting in–I needed to get out of my house. So I doubled up on face masks and drove to the largest thrift store I knew of (Saint Vincent de Paul, aka St. Vinnie’s), with tall ceilings and lots of room to shop in a socially distant way. I gave myself a $30 budget and bought all the men’s button-downs that appealed to me. Then I sewed them up into this spiderweb quilt, a process that was repetitive and soothing. In the spring, I had it beautifully quilted by Susan Miner.
