This quilt was created for my across-the-street neighbor and friend in Oakland, Benedicte Lassalle. One summer afternoon, she sketched the design for me and we measured the backyard gate where the quilt would eventually hang. We naturally dyed an old cotton bag and a worn bedsheet (turmeric for the yellow and avocado for the pink), and also used her childrens’ outgrown shorts and an accidentally sun-bleached pillow case. Almost the entire quilt was stitched by hand.
